Optical rogue waves in multifractal photonic arrays

چکیده
Optical rogue waves are demonstrated in the far-field scattered radiation from photonic arrays designed according to aperiodic distributions of prime elements complex quadratic fields. Specifically, by studying light diffraction Eisenstein and Gaussian we establish a connection between formation optical multifractality visible single-scattering regime. We link strong with heavy-tail probability that describe fluctuations fabricated arrays. Our findings pave way control high-intensity using deterministic dielectric nanostructures for enhanced sensing lithographic applications.

Deterministic optical rogue waves.
Experimental observations of rare giant pulses or rogue waves were done in the output intensity of an optically injected semiconductor laser. The long-tailed probability distribution function of the pulse amplitude displays clear non-Gaussian features that confirm the rogue wave character of the intensity pulsations. Simulations of a simple rate equation model show good qualitative agreement wi...

Among the myriad of nonlinear optical effects, supercontinuum generation is perhaps the most visually stunning and useful in applications ranging from tomography to frequency metrology. When a high-intensity optical pulse propagates through a nonlinear dielectric medium, its spectrum broadens, with the degree of broadening depending on the strength of the interaction. If the interaction is stro...
متن کاملRogue Waves in Spatially Extended Optical Systems
Giant anomalous events may occur in systems characterized by many waves, with extremely high amplitude waves appearing with a probability much higher than expected for a random dynamics. Such rare, and giant, events are known to occur on the ocean surface and have been named, in that context, “rogue waves”. We present here some recent experimental results on the statistical properties of giant ...
متن کاملOptical Rogue Waves in Vortex Turbulence.
We present a spatiotemporal mechanism for producing 2D optical rogue waves in the presence of a turbulent state with creation, interaction, and annihilation of optical vortices. Spatially periodic structures with bound phase lose stability to phase unbound turbulent states in complex Ginzburg-Landau and Swift-Hohenberg models with external driving. When the pumping is high and the external driv...
